If you’re fiancée is from Thailand but your bread and butter is in the UK, you can obtain a UK residency visa for your partner via a fiancée visa. Applying for a UK visa for Thai national is relatively simple if you plan to enter a civil union or get married in the future. You have to prove that you will live together permanently, have actually met and own a place of residency, and can be financially supported without employment until your relationship is official.  Of course, you’ll both have to be of legal age by the time you enter the UK, being at least 21.

Documents You’ll Need

In applying for a UK visa from Thailand, you must complete a visa application form for settlement (VAF4A). The following documents will be required: evidence of ability to fund the trip, a valid passport and passport photograph, previous passports, evidence of monthly income after taxes, evidence of existing work or studies, police record, partner’s financial and residency status, planned accommodations, and evidence of contact between you and your partner.

These requirements mainly establish two important pieces of information: your financial status in the UK and your relationship with your Thai fiancée. You’re chances of having your fiancée’s UK visa application approved are higher if you and your partner have known each other for  a certain time period, which is not less than 6 months. The longer the time you both have spent together, the better odds are.

What Comes After

Once your application for a UK visa for Thai fiancée has been approved, your fiancée’s visa will allow her to stay for up to 6 months without permission to work. Once you both get married, your partner can apply for an extension of two years. By this time, your fiancée is allowed to seek employment and have residency privileges. After another two more years, your partner may apply for permanent residency.
